Shelton Benjamin Set to Headline ASÉ Wrestling
ASÉ Wrestling is making another major statement on the independent wrestling scene.
After just three events, the Charlotte-based, Black-owned pro wrestling promotion has announced that Shelton Benjamin will headline its next event on June 22, 2024, marking one of the biggest main events in the young company’s history.
Founded by Charlotte native and longtime professional wrestler Darius Lockhart, ASÉ Wrestling was created to celebrate professional wrestling through the lens of Black culture while helping restore Charlotte’s reputation as one of wrestling’s great cities. Since launching at the historic Grady Cole Center, the promotion has quickly built a reputation for blending world-class in-ring competition with a unique cultural experience.
Landing Shelton Benjamin for the main event is another significant milestone.
Shelton Benjamin Brings Decades of Pro Wrestling Experience
Few wrestlers have built a résumé like Shelton Benjamin.
The Orangeburg, South Carolina native has spent more than two decades competing at the highest levels of professional wrestling. During his career, Benjamin captured multiple championships, including tag team, Intercontinental, United States, and 24/7 titles, while becoming one of the industry’s most respected in-ring performers.
He also gained recognition early in his career while competing in Ohio Valley Wrestling, where he teamed with Brock Lesnar to win the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship before both competitors reached national prominence.
Following his departure from WWE in September 2023, Benjamin became one of the most sought-after free agents in professional wrestling. His appearance at ASÉ Wrestling represents one of his highest-profile independent matches since returning to the open market.
A Dream Match Against Jonathan Gresham
Benjamin will meet Jonathan Gresham in what promises to be one of the marquee independent wrestling matches of the summer.
Known as one of the best technical wrestlers in the world, Gresham has competed in more than 15 countries and built an international reputation through Ring of Honor, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, and other promotions across the globe. He is a former ROH World Champion and has earned widespread respect for his precision and technical mastery inside the ring.
The matchup also marks Gresham’s return to ASÉ Wrestling after competing at the promotion’s inaugural event in Charlotte, where his controversial loss to Darius Carter left unfinished business inside an ASÉ ring.
Now, he’ll step back into that ring against one of the most accomplished veterans of his generation.

Another Milestone for ASÉ Wrestling
Benjamin joins a growing list of wrestling icons who have appeared with ASÉ Wrestling during its first year.
The promotion has already welcomed Hall of Famers Mark Henry, Ron Simmons, D’Lo Brown, and Theodore Long, helping establish ASÉ as one of the fastest-rising independent wrestling promotions in the Southeast.
Adding Shelton Benjamin to the June 22 card continues that momentum while reinforcing ASÉ Wrestling’s commitment to delivering nationally recognized talent alongside the next generation of professional wrestling stars.
Tickets for ASÉ Wrestling’s June 22 event in Charlotte go on sale May 27 at asewrestling.com.
